Romans 9:21—“Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?”

Just what is the Apostle Paul saying to us in these precious words? Simply this—the Almighty God has power over the clay! Yes, God makes us, and molds us, and holds us in His hands!

You know very well that a potter has the job of holding, making and molding clay. True, any potter can make an object to place on your shelf. And also, any potter can make an artifact that is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. In fact, they can make objects that can sell for a fortune.

But, we must always keep in mind that God does not need objects—God needs instruments!

I know and you also know, that for too many Christians are merely objects, but they are not instruments. Let's face it, an instrument is good for something, it has a purpose, it has value, it is something to be used. Remember—this potter has power over the clay—creative power. He did pick up dust from the ground, breathed on it, gave it life, and it walks and talks—a human being that my friend, is creative power.

But even more importantly, the potter has re-creative power. As we all know, sometimes the pot does not do what it was designed to do. The potter takes it and breaks it and makes it what he would have it to be. Many times I have felt marred and broken, but this Lord was not through with me. He began the process of recreating me.

Throughout our lives God makes us, molds us and holds us in His hands. No matter what happens in my life, I am in sickness or health, come what may—I am in his hand!
