Summer, 1877:
Russia and Turkey at war. Again. England doing everything possible to stay out of this war. Again. Prince Bismark, Chancellor of the newly minted country of Germany, doing everything he can to keep France and England from becoming allies. Again. Irish nationalists doing everything they can to smuggle several hundred pounds of the powerful new explosive, dynamite, into England. Again.
Problems enough for anyone born to greatness. But Katrin Lukus was not so born. Cautious, and bookish, highly intelligent and clearly not suited to danger and intrigue, she still managed to get herself entangled in them all. Making matters even worse, a massive man-made disaster laid waste to half of Katrin Lukus' home town of St. John, in the newly minted country of Canada, leaving her homeless while being pursued by American gunmen, Fenian smugglers and Bismark's best agents.
On the other hand, Katrin is truely a woman ahead of her time. What is the future to everyone else is merely history to her, being as she would not be born for another three quarters of a century. Unfortunately, a detailed knowledge of the future does not always bring the benefits one might expect.
