Set in a small town just north of NYC, A Matter of Pride, takes place shortly before the outbreak of the Civil War.

Heather Larkin seems to have it all, beauty brains, popularity and the admiration of the area's most handsome and charming man, Judson Morrison whom Heather loves madly. However, Heather learns her father has arranged her marriage to Alex Conroy, the county's most eligible bachelor.  Alex is everything Judson is not.  Alex maybe rich and able to help her family out of their financial difficulties but he is too serious and aloof for Heather's tastes.  Then there's the rumors of his terrifying reputation.

Defying all proprieties, Heather meets with the man of her dreams which results in devastating consequences.  Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Alex, her fiancé with his stiff unyielding pride?  Or Judson with his carefree easy going ways?

Lincoln is elected president and war breaks out. Much like most of the country, Heather finds herself in a turmoil.  She wants to do the right thing.  Should she swallow her pride and reveal the truth or let the man she loves walk away?

What is the right thing?
