Gentle, creative Percy has always been content with a simple life in his poor medieval village. Orphaned at a young age, he has always managed to get by and is more interested in sketching nature than seeking his fortune. All that changes as he begins to mature and fall in love with his best friend, Leandra. Leandra's parents think she can do better than a poor orphan boy and have begun to discourage the relationship.
Desperate not to lose Leandra, Percy considers the old village legend of a terrible monster who lives in a castle, deep in the woods. The villagers believe that anyone who can make the monster cry will inherit the castle and all its riches. Over the years, many have ventured off to find the monster, but none have ever returned.
Percy has never harmed another, and has no desire to do so, but he feels he has run out of options. He packs his knife and a few essentials, then sets off on his journey. What he experiences will uncover the unlikely nature of his true courage and manhood.
A Monster's Tears is a short story of approximately 3,700 words.
