This book, A New Approach to Drawing, is based on thirty years of teaching visual art in a small college in Duluth, Minnesota, located on the shores of Lake Superior. My intention in writing this book is to share my knowledge for the purpose of offering a new method of learning basic drawing and providing a new access point for anyone interested in learning how to draw. What sets my book apart from others of its kind is that my method focuses on problem-solving through the process of drawing. In art, as in life, its important to understand the problems before us, look at them from diverse perspectives, and come up with the best possible solution. While I anticipate the main audience for this book will be comprised of students, anyone wanting to acquire drawing skill quickly and easily will benefit from learning my techniques. My instruction is simple and direct, with a minimum of confusing terms.
