My book “A sensitive little flower…or not?” is light reading for ladies (or men!) at any age who are already on dating websites, or just going to submit their profiles there. This is not an instruction or recommendation manual, no! This is a simple experience of a woman who has not lost her hope for pure love and happiness.
Ollie immigrated with her son to Canada from Ukraine in her 40’s. It took her a few years to develop a comfort level with the English language, and when she felt her language skills were tolerable for communication on a personal level, started a man-quest for potential marriage possibilities on dating websites. She quickly found a man, Jeffrey, got married quickly, stayed in the marriage for 4 years, grew unhappy and got divorced. The chapter about him is “A Candlelight Relationship”, not about her love - just about her marriage.
The next guy she met through a dating website was Bradley. The story about him is a sad part of the book. She fell in love with him, but unfortunately it was the type of love that hurts. It took Ollie a long time to heal her bleeding heart, but eventually she moved on with her life. This chapter, titled “Rebound Girlfriend Relationship” is proof that love can conquer somebody’s soul at any age, but even with a sad ending can also enrich somebody’s experience.
The chapter “Harley – Davidson Relationship” is about William, whom Ollie met on the dating website. It did not work out…again. It was a short period of time with a lot of fun.
The last chapter is “Walking in a Garden Relationship”. This one is about Ollie’s current love affair with Nikky. Ollie lives in Toronto, Nikky lives in Calgary. They found each other on a website, and started their “epistolary romance” of the 21st century right away.
E-mails, texts, phone talks - all contemporary technologies - helped them to stay in touch, and get to know each other. After several rendezvous, when Nikky flew to Toronto, and Ollie flew to Calgary, they fell in love and decided to live together.
There are several narrator’s insertions that explain what lies behind their texting.
The book ends with the hope the love story will continue…
It’s a story of humour and emotion, lessons learned, and adventures along the way. It shows us Ollie’s sensitivity and capacity for love, but also her rational determination to do it her way. The book is a bit sad and a bit funny, just the way Ollie’s life is. Maybe the next book will be about their fairy tale with all “grammar” corrections that life brings when the romance goes under the same roof?!
