Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him. Lang was also a prolific author of works both fiction and non. A Tale Of The Tontlawald is an Estonian fairy tale included it in The Violet Fairy Book. Tontlawald is dark, ominous forest. No one ever ventured there. Once a bold peasant who had wandered farther than most came back with the tale of a ruined house and men-like creatures. No one believed him. One day, the children were gathering strawberries when a boy realized they were in the Tontlawald. Kids ran off. All of them, but Elsa, the peasant’s daughter.
