I had a bad feeling about this and sweat ran from every pore in my body as my imagination took over. I wondered if I would feel anything when this guy put a bullet in me. At last I knew real fear. I promised myself that no matter what, I wouldn't go out like a punk - crying and begging for my life. Nor would I pray and have it fall on deaf ears.

The Mexican smiled as he reached over and pulled the tape from my mouth - taking part of my mustache with it. He laughed and said he wanted to hear my last breath as it left my body.

He gave a nod to someone behind me and I immediately felt a sting in my forearm - seconds later I felt the effects of a drug I hadn't done in a long time - heroin. I was thankful the tape was off of my mouth when I threw up. My old lover Ms. Heroin had come to take me home. Before leaving I felt the sting of another needle.

I awoke face down in a pile of trash. Rain was pounding my body - my ears were filled with the sounds of traffic. The smell of wet asphalt and rotting garbage filled my nose. Finally I rolled over and let the rain finish washing away the blood and vomit that soaked my hair and clothes.

The pain that wracked my sore - beat up body was a feeling I welcomed. It meant I was alive. I was fucked up and beat up - but I was alive. The rainwater helped clear my mind that was still numb from the effects of the smack.

I tried to put the pieces together. This wasn't easy. My mind was still foggy. The pain - exhaustion - near death experience and heroin put my system on over-load. I shut down and returned to the safety of sleep.

I awoke sometime later and once again tried to put the pieces together. This time I was a little more successful. All I knew was that somebody had caught me slipping and left me for dead. They must have thought the heroin had killed me and dumped my body.
