An Englishman in Blackpool

Ever been at a point in life that you wish you could change it all but you can’t?

Set in 2010 this is the story of 23 year old Jim, as he faces the highs and lows of his life in Blackpool. Still living with his mother who keeps a roof over their head by running a local bed and breakfast Jim yearns for excitement in his life.

Having lost his job he decides to blow all of his troubles away at a friend’s stag do. An over exuberant drinking session leads Jim onto the stage to perform karaoke, score drugs, miss out on a curry but fate takes a twist as he bumps into Katherine for the first time.

Chances of romance on the first evening soon fade away as the light goes out on Jim only for him to find himself woken by the cold air coming off the Irish Sea.

Jim still manages to turn out for his Sunday morning football side only for the whistle to be blown early as the game resorts into a mêlée of physical violence.

Rescue is at hand as the chance of love which Jim thought he had blown returns. Lady Luck must be shining as not only has he met the love of his life her parents offer a helping hand with the offer of a new career opportunity.

Now well and truly in the hands of the local travelling fraternity Jim finds more than he bargained for on day one of work which sees him as a courier only to find out that his consignment is greeted with a different response from each of his customers, including a well respected judge and a bored housewife who offers extra services.

Having acquired a new job and company vehicle, albeit one which had seen better day’s, life was looking rosy until an unfortunate encounter with the local constabulary see’s Jim staring at a long stretch. The cops have soon got Jim playing their game and a deal is done which gets Jim out on bail at the price of telling all on his new employer.

There’s only one feasible solution to run, but where to?

Mixed with adult humour the story not only provides a bad luck story of a typical lad growing up in a typical town in England it goes onto to touch the inner thinking of everyone. Fact is mixed with fiction, glory mixed with despair and life is told of how we live our life, not always the way we intended through rose tinted glasses but sometimes messy, sometimes wonderful but always uniquely!
