Although popular culture depicts the Chateu Vert pageant as being the moment Henry fell in love with Anne, it is not clear when the king did notice her. What is clear, is that from 1522 onwards, Anne’s prospective suitors at court were stopped in their tracks by Henry VIII. Whether he simply sought to make her his mistress, as he had done with his sister, or to make her his wife, is also not clear. However, “Whoso List to Hunt”, a poem written by Sir Thomas Wyatt in 1525 indicates that by the middle of the decade, Henry’s intentions for Anne were clear. The line “Noli me Tangere, for Caeser’s I am” suggests Anne was dedicated to the King by that point.
