They brought me back from an early retirement because, quite frankly, there was no senior officer left who could stomach the job. Between my investigation team and Linda’s forensic team, I was either ‘Leader’ or ‘Chief’, or a combination of the two. Of course I was shown the usual respect, but was I being set up? Believe me, I wasn’t the only victim to paranoia!
At first we decided our victims weren’t really linked at all, except that they were all victims of a serial killer. This was no ordinary serial nutcase, mind you! It would seem he was stalking the whole bloody police department, clearly the work of an untouchable crime syndicate! The problem was, he claimed all the credit for his sadistic actions, and he even gave himself a name! Later we weren’t sure why one killer had two calling cards. Was he careless or purposely deceptive? I was determined to crack the case, but once again I vowed it would be my last!
This short story boasts gruesome murder scenes, strong language, with a hint of sexual activity, not suitable for young children.
