ALICE’S HAND WAS over her heart, now, feeling her heart pound. And, then she entered her special home with Ralph. Alice marveled that she felt like she’d lived here forever, as she walked straight through, to peek out the back. Technically, it could still be considered a new house. They’d only been here three months.
Oh. The renovation’s done?
She giggled and went to sneak a peek of Ralph’s latest surprise.
She stepped out the side patio, then froze in her tracks when she saw it.
Chills passed through her body. The blood drained from her face.
“Oh, my....”
This was no “recreational extension”, as he’d implied.
Ralph’s built a mausoleum in the back of their property! She didn’t even know you could get community rezoning for that.
Ralph. What the fuck were you thinking?
A part of her panicked. She’d expected he’d have a hard time after caring for her so arduously, to the point of endangering his own life. Yes, perhaps, an exceptionally hard time getting over her. But, this said he meant for her to rest right here when she passed away. When she died.
“A mausoleum for the both of us?”
She rubbed her forehead. Amazing. Bewildering.
He never meant to let her go. She put a hand over her mouth; not that she had anything to say. Alice was trembling when she walked back into the house.
How long has this construction been finished?
Is he home?
It still was very quiet.
