CHARLES J BUNYAN is a retired lawyer living in Scotland. Berliner Luft is a trilogy of novels which, though not entirely set in Berlin, have many of the main scenes, characters or events set there: THE DARK SIDE OF FRED is a psychological thriller about a„minor“ German aristocrat who, in his youth, found himself on the fringes of the Baader-Meinhof gang. On his return to Berlin in middle-age and with his life disintegrating around him, he finds that he may not have shed his previous identity. A CATHOLIC SKELETON is a novel which operates on several levels. It can be seen as • a detective story, • a critical view of aspects of the British class system which operate to this day, • a novel that explores the moral dilemmas of ordinary people when faced with complex moral choices, all pointed up by the discovery of two skeletons on the site of a world war two camp for prisoners in Scotland and the ensuing police enquiry by a retired Berlin detective and his Scottish counterpart. THE CHINESE ARTIST is a novel about a German Chinese girl in Berlin adopted by a couple there and functions on different levels: • a novel that should provide a satisfying „romance“ • the cruelty of the one child policy • themoral dilemma of parents adopting a child froman ethnic background so different from their own that the child is bound to suffer cultural displacemant • poses the „Quo Vadis“ question as regards Chinese communism.
