Black Ice

The night is ghostly dark and cold as I pull the man out of the Ford and onto the snow. Sindy and I are the only witnesses. We're driving down from up the hill. Only one set of lights until he hit the tree with force.

He is hurt, hurt bad and bleeding. He'll need a hospital soon.

"My girlfriend...I'm worried about her...Gayle I mean," he says as we lay a blanket on him. "Someone's following her, stalking her. She needs help."

Sindy says, "Bo, I think we have the beginnings of a new case. What to you think?"

Looking up at us with glazed eyes, he whispers, barely audible, "Can you help me? I'm Tom...Tom Reynolds. I'm on my way to Flagstaff. Gayle needs help. Someone's after her. Who are you anyway?"

"My name is Corey Boland. I'll put our card in your coat pocket. Sindy and I are Private Investigators. You can call me Bo," I say.

That is the beginning. Tom closes his eyes.
