Bogey Dawson and Becky Friedman have escaped the worst Edmond Huddleston could throw at them. The man was wealthy, unscrupulous, and determined to own their champion filly Final Gift. When money, threats and intrigue failed, he turned to murderous violence which fortunately ended in his own death. Relieved,Bogey and Becky enter their talented filly in the Kentucky Derby believing they face only those risks and dangers inherent in racing thoroughbreds. Soon they will realize that, evil as he was, Edmond Huddleston was only a foretaste of the peril before them. Bogey's brother is murdered and Bogey is framed for his death. An FBI agent appears unbidden, apparently determined to charge Bogey with Edmond Huddleston's murder as well as the murder of his brother. Jeff Crawford, the local sheriff, believes in Bogey's innocence and suspects a connection with a drug ring that is becoming active in the small town. When Bogey's lifelong best friend barely escapes being shot by a sniper, Bogey agrees to go undercover in an effort to solve the maelstrom of drugs and violence threatening everyone he holds dear. This plan leads him, along with his beloved Becky, directly to the lair of a despicable and ruthless gang where they must use every skill they can muster just to servive.
