The people of Lavender Court is a retrospective look at the backstreets of Birmingham in the early years of the twentieth century. The book is based on the memories of the residents of an old people’s home whose life stories have been distilled and combined to form a compelling indictment of slum life enlightened only by the courage and humour of those who lived there.
