A storm more fierce than any came to this small community making havoc where none was needed during one of the worst economic times of American history. This storm was just the beginning of a number of calamities besieging a poor farm belonging to a modest Bishop of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. One after the other a challenge of sorts had to be dealt with by the Bishop and his family. At the same time one of his remaining baby chicks so traumatized by the storm and additional threats to its survival it could not get accustomed to people or even the other animals on the farm with the exception of a cow which the chick uses for nothing else some sort of protection. In spite of a number of obstacles facing the family they find the time to help others and engage in healthy activities.
However as time went on the family increasingly became weary of one serious problem after another. The day finally came when the Bishop and one of his sons questioned the reasoning of heavenly father in all these calamities. The book attempts to answer the age old question asked around the world since the very thought of a higher power. How can there be a God, especially a benevolent God, when such things happen? How can there a God be, in a world full of adversity? The author answers the question much the same way the challenge came to the prophet Abram. Are we going to hold on to our faith in the face of adversity? We are given agency on this earth so the question turns to the strength of our will not the existence of the Lord. Are we going to hang in there?
Both the family and the chicken come to an understanding after experiencing the light found only in man's love for one another.
