Carillion is back and there’s a new member of the team. However, DI Pauline Macdonald doesn’t come without baggage. Her father, a well known corporate lawyer, has links with Glasgow’s underworld and the secretive Chinese hotel chain Bright White. Unknown to Macdonald, he is on a police watch list.
After the farrago of the spring Royal visit, the summer has passed quietly but as the days get shorter tension is rising in the city; someone is killing drug dealers. Carillion has to persuade Police Scotland that the murders are the work of one individual and put an end to the killings. The hunt is on, but Carillion is not the only one looking for the murderer. The two Macs, heads of Glasgow’s underworld are also searching for the killer, but they have their own agendas.
Carillion is again mired in more than just criminality, and the pressure mounts when the killer contacts the press and openly mocks the authorities.
And then there’s politics, Carillion is called to give evidence to a Parliamentary Committee whose remit is to oversee the operations of Police Scotland. The outcome of the meeting could have profound implications throughout the country.
