This book, "Church Entertainments," is aptly subtitled "Twenty Objections." Carradine rightly asserts that the church, even in his day, was missing the point of preaching the Gospel and rather became caught up in church growth. This is still a problem today, and this book can be of use to help get things straightened out.

The Table of Contents are as follows:
Objection 1: It Precipitates Money-Making Into the Church
Objection 2: It Is A Perversion And Desecration Of The House Of God
Objection 3: It Is A Misconception Of The Mission Of The Church
Objection 4: It Is Unwarranted In The Scripture
Objection 5: It Neutralizes God’s Labors For Spiritual Life
Objection 6: It Misrepresents The Great Aim Of The Church
Objection 7: It Is An Open Humiliation Of Jesus Christ
Objection 8: It Exhausts And Demoralizes The Congregation
Objection 9: It Produces Differences And Dissensions In The Congregation
Objection 10: It Operates As A Cloak For Covetousness
Objection 11: It Shifts Church Support To Outsiders
Objection 12: It Is The Sin Of A Blemished Offering
Objection 13: It Is The Sin Of Ananias And Sapphira
Objection 14: It Involves The Church In Inconsistency
Objection 15: It Is Purely Worldly In Character
Objection 16: It Has Evil Educational Tendencies

About the author:

Beverly Francis Carradine (April 4, 1848 – April 22, 1931) was an American Methodist minister, and a leading evangelist for the holiness movement. He was a productive author, writing primarily on the subject of sanctification.

He served in the Confederate Cavalry during the American Civil War, and later in his lafe studied pharmacy and also worked in a store as a clerk and bookkeeper.

Unlike many ministers, Carradine was not converted to Christianity until the age of 26. He was licensed to preach only three months later, and continued in the service of God for the remainder of his life.

He was a prolific author, and wrote more than two dozen books. Throughout his life, he was influential in the holiness movement, and continues to be a blessing generations later.
