A woman's body is recovered from among the mangrove roots near Tierra Oscura. She was wearing snorkeling gear.
There was nothing there to attract snorkelers. Why was she there? Who were the two men who were seen with her? What had that taxi been doing there?
Then the box of jewels.
Dead End
Something is wrong on Isla Popa. Some gringos were building a marina. The Indios tried to tell them a marina couldn't make a living there. There was no channel to reach the spot.
The people thougt they were trying to run them off. Clint went to explain what was happening and was treated badly by the son and wife, though the man tried to be reasonable.
Clint got through to him what the natives said. He learned his wife and son were the cause of the trouble. He would have to abandon the idea.
Then someone tried to kill him and the wife refused medical attention until Clint, acting for the police, took his to the hospital.
Clint meant to find who had tried to kill the man.
Detour Through Hell
Clint and Judi are returning by car to David when a derumbe blocked the road in front of them. They went back to find there was another. They couldn't go either way until the road was cleared. There was only a busload of people and Clint and Judi, who were making the best of the situation - until the first murder.
Could Clint solve this before the blockage was removed and the people left?
The Time Factor
A phone call to the police. A man demanding the police take action against a neighbor.
The police go to find the complainer dead. He was dead long before he supposedly placed that call.
Who? Why? The man wasn't liked, but no one would kill anyone simply because he was a pain in the ass.
What were those blah people doing there? How were they involved?
