When Melissa notices the silhouette of a man she recognizes as the man she loved many years ago, old feelings come flooding back instantly, but she has no idea what to say to him.  When he approaches her and the two of them begin reminiscing about old times, Melissa learns that this man she loved so many years ago may hold more than her heart.  This man may hold the many secrets and questions surrounding her past.

Excerpt:

“Why, Melissa?  Why did you disappear?”

Melissa put her arms around Todd, folding them across his chest.  She spoke softly, yet distinctly and certainly.  “I did not disappear.  You knew where I was the entire time.  You could have come to me.”

“I had to stay behind.  I had to convince them that what they had seen was not what they had thought it was.  But you, you got to live the life of the free spirit in Los Angeles.  “I missed you, Melissa.  You must have married.  You have sons.”

Melissa continued to speak softly and slowly to her first love who continued to face away from her.  “I was not celibate all of these years, as I am certain you have not been either.”

Todd’s heart was breaking at the thought of Melissa loving another man.  “Did you love him, Melissa, the way you loved…?”

“The way that I loved you?  There will never will be a love like ours.”

******

“They’re gone, Melissa.  We were orphans, all of us who were taken in by them and their lies.  We were like the children of the Scandinavian countries when Hitler was determined to create a world of blue eyed blonde haired children.  The players of the game were different, but the sadistic game was the same.”

Melissa squinted her eyes for a brief second, forming a look of disbelief on her face.  “Where did they go, the South of France?  Did they extort money from unsuspecting charitable groups?  Was the shame too much for them to bear?”
