One of Teague's ex-girlfriends, an Army officer, Aileen Griffen, calls unexpectedly, asking for his help. Their friend, Nadeya Raymund, Teague's former survival instructor, has gone missing. She was last seen in Daytona Beach, FL (not far from Teague) and was on the trail of a man who had knowledge of her fiancé's murder. He agrees to look for her.

Teague first talks to Nadeya's therapist at the VA, another ex, Isobel. She tells him that Nadeya's mental state was more unstable than usual. She suffers from PTSD and focuses on bringing Brett's killers to justice. She told Isobel she'd spotted one in Daytona and was looking for him. She'd sent Isobel a picture from her phone.

After making a few calls, Teague discovers there's a body at the beach—he fits the description of Nadeya's quarry. Strangely, all his identification is in his pockets. His driver's license dubs him Nicola Tesla, but laundry marks in the clothing identify him as Corvin Silvius—neither man exists. It's now up to Teague and his friends to find Nadeya, track down the killers and bring them to justice. Sounds simple, right? Think again.
