On a morning walk, Jackson Moonset ends up in the older side of Silverweed. Walking into a back yard, he sees a car. He's amazed; it's the dream car of his teens, the Ashtar Dom, one of the first flying cars on the market.
He decides to buy it, but the car can only be purchased if he buys the entire property which is set at a drastic price, so he agrees and goes home to tell his girlfriend the great news.
As weeks pass, getting closer to his birthday, the car is still in the shop. He and Hyacinth have moved in their new house and he has been doing a new painting.
On the eve, before his birthday, he is told by Mr. Roget something unusual was found in the glove compartment of the car: a dead man's fingers; and the coroner has been called.
Jackson and Hyacinth are on their way to find out what is going on, little knowing just what dangers are in wait for them.
It is the beginning of a long, wild night, unlike anything Jackson could ever expect to encounter; and it will take all his intellect and strength to overcome the horrors triggered by a dead man's fingers.
