On a beautiful sunny Sunday in Monterey California, Jason, Henry, their families, and a group of friends are enjoying a BBQ. They center their conversations on the outages caused by killer heat waves hitting the East coast and global warming. After much talking, some deep digging on the internet and through forums, they realize an EMP caused the outages. The news and the facts on the ground did not add up.
That day splits the story into two parts.
A friend deep in the dark zone summons Henry. The friend’s whole life and neighborhood have fallen into chaos with civil order all but gone. He fears for his family and life as he defends his business and home from attackers and looters. With no power, diminishing supplies, he is running short of time. Henry and a small band of his friends travel to the area and embark on a life resembling war torn Afghanistan. With one seventh of the country gone dark, and millions displaced, the entire dead zone falls into anarchy and chaos.
The other story path follows the attackers.
A group hacked into a Chinese manufacturing facility, stealing source code for hardware sold to the Americans. The hackers reverse engineer the code, opening a back door to the hardware. Subsequently, they hack into a U.S. based electric utility company server, effectuating the attack, all under the guise of a prank, a challenge, something fun to do. They had no clue what they had wrought or what the Chinese hardware could do.
While the people inside the dead zone deal with the economic fallout and collapse of civil society, Jason Caius and a small group outside the country chase down the culprits and deliver justice.
A Little More…
If you’re a fan of Mark Greaney, John Grisham, James Patterson, Jack Higgins, Tom Clancy, David Baldacci, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher, Robert Ludlum’s Bourne and Janson, then you’ll love this page-turning Jason Caius political thriller. Jason is a combination of stealthy CIA agent and university professor. He is smart in his ways and brutal when the occasion requires it. And, Max Boroumand is an author whose life experiences working and living in the world’s most volatile areas, dealing with governments and large multi-national corporations, have introduced him to many of the characters in his books. His attention to detail is uncanny and make his work seem non-fiction. The truths to which he was privy are frightening.
What Readers are saying …
“Love EMP based stories. This has that plus a whole other story of vengeance and payback.”
