Father Peter Rock happens to be an alcoholic priest, who is getting out of rehab—for the third time in five years. During his third stay at the rehab center, he had a transformation and found a successful method of controlling his sobriety. Despite the fact that his old parish does not want him back, Peter is excited to prove to himself and show others he has what it takes to be a good pastor of a church.

Bishop Bloom trusted Peter when he left the rehabilitation center for the second time. He asked a favor from a friend to get Peter back to work as a pastor. Bishop Bloom was greatly embarrassed and disappointed when he found Peter drunk in the street—again.

Bishop Bloom believes Peter cannot handle the pressure of pasturing a church. He believes Peter is best suited as a director of a nursing home for retired priests. There would be less pressure, and there would be other priests there to help Peter if he needed to talk.

Father Peter knows his calling is to be the pastor of a parish, and he will not relapse again. However, the odds are against him when Bishop Bloom is determined to place him as the head of a nursing home for retired priests.
