What if society adopted a gruesome practice to keep the crown from tyranny? What if this practice, instead of being the warning it was intended to be, becomes common practice? The Kingdom of Drayden is a society plagued by what they call the "curse of royalty" and Queen Peydra knows what the curse is on an intimate level. Subject to the curse herself, she refuses to submit to its inevitability.

In this first installment of JA Fleming's Curse of Royalty Series, we follow young Queen Peydra as she grows after the loss of her parents to the curse, discovers how heavy the crown is, and experiences the surprising loyalty of a secretive attendant she calls First Boy. And having decided to lead her court on an inaugural tour shortly after being crowned, the new queen finds that she’s risked the safety of the whole ruling body of Drayden as a northern kingdom invades to threaten them with war.
