Eight 2 Two is a book of 100 short poems (two of them translations from Pablo Neruda) by a "non-poet," i.e., prose writer, Sasha Newborn. The poems range from serious to whimsical, from the Seventies to the Teens. Themes include death, sex, experimental writing, obsession, life's mysteries, memories, perceptions.

The overriding "message" of Eight 2 Two, suggested in the title, is hidden in the structure of the book as a puzzle, which is aimed at being a metaphor for the way that life reveals surprises in the commonest affairs when one's perspective shifts.
Here is a typical poem:

92

The trick with words, so unlike
color on a palette,
the words must reflect a reality—
and the art is no art at all.

Poets—every poet I’ve known
had no choice in the matter.
