El último mohicano se desarrolla en 1757, durante la Guerra de los Siete Años, cuando Francia y Gran Bretaña se enfrentaron por el control de América del Norte. Durante esta guerra, los franceses dependían de sus aliados nativos americanos para ayudar a combatir a los numerosos colonos británicos en las áreas de frontera Nordeste.

The Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757, during the Seven Years' War, when France and Great Britain battled for control of North America. During this war, the French depended on its Native American allies to help fight the more numerous British colonists in the Northeast frontier areas.
The novel was one of the most popular in English in its time, and it remains widely read in American literature courses.
