Alexander Howell grew up loving The State, the all knowing, all powerful rulers of Aescar. But when Alexander wakes up in an abandoned village with no memory of how he came to be there, a chance encounter leads him to join a fledgling rebellion against his former masters. Alongside Blue Six, a band of the rebel militia’s ragtag elite, he begins a journey of discovery that threatens to destroy his life and everything he holds to be true.

Enhanced follows the story of Alexander Howell, a young man who joins the army to provide for his family and create a better life for his beloved Jessica. But joining the Aescaran army comes with a price, or as The State would tell it, a gift. The higher brain functions of every soldier are chemically suppressed and replaced by a synaptic transceiver that connects them to a single, central mind operated by the mysterious and enigmatic Controllers. In this way, a soldier will never experience pain or fear and crucially, will never refuse an order.
When Alexander is accidentally set free of his Enhancement, he unwillingly joins a fledgling rebellion and follows their soldiers, who fear and despise him in equal measure as they encounter starving bandits, the unflinching Enhanced soldiers of The State and a secret that will break apart their entire understanding of the world around them.
