One of two "Tales from Essex County" created by Jeff Lemire as supplements to his award-winning graphic novel, "The Essex County Boxing Club" is now available as a digital stand-alone. It's a rich story of friendship, community, old age, and -- of course -- good ol'-fashioned boxing! Born in a tiny farming town in southwestern Ontario, Canada in 1976, cartoonist Jeff Lemire now resides in Toronto. His previous projects include two issues of his self-published anthology comic Ashtray (2003) as well as the Xeric-Award-winning graphic novel Lost Dogs (2005). In 2006 Lemires work was included as part of the Banff Centers Comic Craze exhibit, an international symposium celebrating Canadian comics and fiction. HisEssex County trilogy has been nominated for the Ignatz Award, received the American Library Associations Alex Award (for adult books with teen appeal), and won the Joe Shuster Award for outstanding Canadian comic book cartoonist (writer/artist). Both volumes are currently being considered jointly for the Eisner award for Best Graphic Novel, perhaps the most prestigious award in the American comics industry, as well as Canadas Doug Wright Awards (for Best Emerging Talent). In addition to the Essex County trilogy, Lemire is currently preparing a new graphic novel, The Nobody, for DC Comics/Vertigo.
