It all started up at Lightning Ridge when Christopher della Gracia found an unusual stone the day after his father opened up a rich opal seam. His father was now able to give his family a better life after having been a miner for a number of years.
The family comes to settle in Kendal, a university town further south and there Christopher meets Anika, the daughter of a relative of his mother, and a younger boy and a girl.
So begins the adventures of the four friends in which the Stone, having been discovered to hold magical properties, takes them into another world and they save an ancient forest from destruction by a logging company.
