Flame Charles thrust her chin up and out. "I'm here to kill you, Marshal Thurston."

Rob's mouth fell open in shock as she turned on her heel and marched out of the saloon without another word. What the hell was that all about? he asked himself, trying to tell himself he hadn't just heard the little lady threaten his life. He grinned, and then decided to sit down and finish his beer before he went after the pretty redhead and put her over his knee and let her know what he thought of mouthy little girls who make empty threats.

Kill him indeed! He shook his head thoughtfully. "Charles" he turned the name over and over in his head, and couldn't recall anyone that he'd sent to prison or killed in the line of duty by that name. He snorted as he raised his mug again. He'd been threatened before, had men take pot shots at him in the name of revenge, but he'd never had a pretty little girl look at him with such contempt and calmly announce she was going to kill him. He finished his beer, and then got to his feet, prepared to go and put some fear into one little Miss Hortense Charles. He grinned. At least he wasn't bored any longer!
