My book is about all the times my Lord and Savior was there for me, and I could not understand why he saved a wretch like me on that January of ’81. I was a no-good sinner, taking pills, and smoking weed daily for almost twenty years, and I was hardly ever home. My poor wife took care of my five children. I was only there in spirit on weekends. God took me a used Band-Aid that was on someone’s badly bruised skin. That was tossed in the street. He came to me in prayer and touched me with power. He opened my eyes for the first time, and I saw the truth: the lust, drugs, and my selfish ways were lifted from me, and for the first time in my marriage, I realized my wife was the only one who never left my side. My life changed that day. I was the prodigal son, and I came home. I felt all clean, and it was as if a heavy burden was lifted from me. It was a familiar feeling like I use to feel as a child when that voice used to talk to me and direct my path as I sold papers in the streets of East Harlem. That is when I realized he had been there the whole time, waiting for me to come home.
