Megan Harper, the daughter of a galactic marine General is expected to carry on her family's legacy by joining the marines. The eldest of three daughters and the only tomboy, Megan wishes to take a different path with her life but succumbs to the destiny chosen for her.

Upon arrival at boot camp, Megan finds it to be everything she imagined - difficult, efficient, and lonely. When each cadet is given an A.I. to assist them, things take a turn for the worse when Megan is assigned Max, a mouthy A.I. that clashes with her daily. As time wears on, Megan realizes she wishes to succeed for the sake of her own pride. Just as things start to look better for her, she finds herself in a vivid dream where she is alone on a hostile alien planet, fending off multiple creatures that want to kill her. It doesn't take long for Megan to realize that this might not be a dream after all.
