Glamorgan's Greatest Generation

It is now seventy years since the end of the Second World War, and time is running out to capture the memories of the men and women who lived through that valiant era. Porthcawl author Malcolm Cowper has interviewed some forty war veterans in the former county of Glamorgan, ranging from the survivor of the horrors of a Japanese prison camp to women who completed the highly dangerous work of manufacturing bombs at the Bridgend Arsenal, and children with memories of gas masks, evacuation and nights spent in air raid shelters. The result is a fascinating collection of first-hand stories of ordinary people living through extraordinary times, capturing the comradeship, humour and sense of duty that carried them through fear, loss and sacrifice.
