This story was originally written for Nate-Nate by Mommy K so that he might understand just how much he was wanted and loved from the beginning. It was not meant to be published. I, Mommy K, wrote it solely for him. Only after years have passed did I realize that Nate-Nate’s adoption story might also help other adopted children and the parents that had to give them up have an understanding of the difficult decisions that were made on their behalf. So often adopted children, especially those that were in foster care, have assumptions about starting out life as “unwanted” children. In most cases this assumption is so far from the truth. While it is true that immaturity, lack of emotional or financial support, addictions, and family pressures are some of the reasons that parents choose to give up their children for adoption, or are forced to, hardly ever were they not wanted. God’s plan was much different than my plan for Nate-Nate. He knew better than I what events would change my plans. He always knew the best family for Nate-Nate. I was a foster parent for this special little boy and for a few other kids along my life’s journey. When I chose to adopt, I had no idea that my health would take a sudden turn for the worse but God did. When I first encountered Nate-Nate’s forever family, I had no idea that they would become his parents but God did. This story may seem sad at times. Like every truly happy ending, there had to be a journey of the heart. That journey for us was not what we had expected. It was instead the perfect plan, God’s plan for Nate-Nate.
