Investing isn’t taught in school, or just about anywhere else. Investing novices must either fend for themselves (in which case they’ll make the same mistakes I made) or be left at the mercy of so-called investment advisers. This little book is intended to fill the investment education void as a basic course of instruction on successful investing. “Grandpa’s Investment Rules” cuts through all the clutter and misinformation that’s out there and describes a simple, proven way to successfully invest. Regarding the ups and downs of the stock market, the pundits always say, “This time it’s different.” Well, the pundits are wrong. It’s never really different. There are certain investment rules, like the rules governing physics, which just don’t change over time. You will learn what these rules are in clear, concise terms by reading this book. What this book is not about: This is not a get rich quick book. The chances of striking it rich quickly through investing are as likely as hitting the jackpot in Las Vegas or buying the winning lottery ticket. Also, this is not a book written by some Harvard economist proposing various theories on investing (that he may or may not have tried). And this is definitely not a book designed to brag about my great investing ability. What this book is about: This is a book about smart investing from a guy who started with zero investing knowledge and a modest military salary, made many investing mistakes along the way, set up his own “investment university” to study all aspects of investing over a 10 year period, and ended up retiring very comfortably at 54 (with no debt—mortgage included--dream house, two kids with college degrees paid for, 5 grandkids set for college through 529 plans, and plenty of invested money). By describing numerous examples of my investing mistakes, I hope to show you how to avoid similar mistakes. And by explaining the overall concept of investing in what I hope are easily understandable terms, I want to cut through all the “noise” that’s out there and show you how really simple it is to put an investment plan together-- a plan which is essentially on auto-pilot and requires very little maintenance-- to successfully fund your retirement. All proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
