Short Story Press Presents Guise Markets by David B. Beaver

Jack has recently graduated from high school with his best friend Lilac. They go back a long ways, but they never imagine they will be working at the same grocery store during the same shift. Guise Markets is not Jack’s ideal choice for a job, but there is more to the store than it seems. What might have been a typical boring job proves more exciting than Jack has bargained for. The other night employees report seeing strange things, objects falling off the shelves. It is even rumored that the company’s founder may have died in the store.

Jack begins to see some of these things for himself within his first week of working for the store. What’s causing this? Is there a rational explanation? Jack tries to ignore it, but he can’t for long. Instead he finds answers in an unlikely place. There is more to his friend Lilac than meets the eye and she may know more than she is letting on. Her connection to the store will reveal an interesting history and open up a can of worms Jack may wish he had kept closed. An unexpected outcome is sure to come of this, but Jack may well wish it never did in this spooky and mysterious tale of what seemed like an average grocery store night crew.
