Candice grew up on the west side of Chicago with a single mother that worked nonstop just to keep food on the table. Her mother made sure that Candice kept her head in her school books and her tail in the house. Trying to shelter her from the harsh reality of their rough neighborhood, Candice's mother caused her to become an impressionable and naive young woman. While she possessed tons of book smarts Candice had no street smarts, which she'd need when she fell in love with her neighborhood's biggest drug dealer, Fella. Her mother didn't approve of Fella. He was the kind of man that she'd tried to keep her daughter away from, but after graduating from high-school with honors Candice felt all grown up decided that she was going to be with Fella no matter what her mother had to say about it and her life was changed forever. Candice was quickly introduced to what most people would call the good life; designer clothes, foreign cars, a huge house to call home and no more money worries. She welcomed this new lifestyle with open arms, not realizing that once she got in there would be no turning back.
Candice's dream world is soon turned into a nightmare when she realizes that along with the good comes the bad; dishonesty, disloyalty and so-called friends that are anything but. Follow Candice as she learns who she can really depend on in her time of need. When her back is against the wall, will Candice be able to toughen up and face the world or will the cold world crush her like it's so many others? Find out in Hard Candy.
