Whimsical Heather, made of turquoise and lime green feathers, loves creating dances in the sky. She feels free and light! Other coloured feathers in the countryside watch and begin to join in the floaty fun. A group of sparkly birds with scratchy-sounding feet want to take part. Heather gets them to tap dance on the hollow trunk of a fallen tree.

While Heather is in free-flow dipping and diving, a maroon feather surprises her by yelling an insult.

'Krippy kropp, jibbidy jopp. Who do you think you are? Nippitty snappitty, shippitty frappitty. This dance is bizaare!’

Her feelings are hurt because she feels she has done something wrong. She falls down to the ground and can't get up.

A kind sky-blue bird who has been whistling in the trees and watching Heather since dawn, helps her by giving her loving advice. ‘Remember, it doesn’t matter what others say. It matters how you feel. So always talk nicely to yourself.’

Eventually Heather and the happy coloured feathers and sparkly birds put on a huge performance for others to see. To Heather's surprise the maroon feather joins in the fun.

With advice from a new friend and a different way of looking at things Heather realises she can be light and free no matter what others say.
