-Excerpt-
Shara's eyes narrowed as she came at me again, all aggression, the tip of her sword trying to find me somewhere in my middle. I batted her blade downward, forcing the point away from me, facing it towards our feet. She was shifting her arms, trying to get out from under me, and I let her momentum shift her to the side.
I dropped my blade all together, freeing up my arms, which I closed around her in a bear hug. I squeezed, tightly, clamping her arms to her sides. I drew her in close to my body, her attempt to pull away forcing her back against my chest. She kicked and failed, growling at me like an impatient beast, my forearms locked just under her breasts. My nose was against her hair. She couldn't get enough leverage to get away from me, though I worried she might try to head-butt me to escape. If I came home with a broken nose and black eyes, someone might ask questions I didn't want to answer.
"You fight dirty, Aren." Shara complained, breathlessly. Something about her tone had shifted. One hand had bent upwards so that her fingers could draw over the skin of my forearm. The other still held her sword, but it dangled loosely in her fingertips.
