Word Count : 10,200
Excerpt:
Bradley was paralyzed for a moment with indecision. The woman looked completely out of place in the building, and he wondered for a moment if she was an intruder. If so, how did she get in? What was she doing here? For a moment, Bradley considered that she could be one of the other employees, stopping by her office before heading out for a night on the town, but he knew that if she worked here, he would have remembered her. Hell, any guy would have a hard time forgetting a body like that.
Making up his mind and screwing up his courage, Bradley decided he had to know what was going on. Opening the door as quietly as possible, he slipped forward into the foyer. Moving to the corner, he peered around it, and seeing that the mystery woman had vanished, started in the direction she had gone.
As he edged slowly down the hall, he contemplated whether he was doing a foolish thing. The internal machinations of a company like AlteredTech were deeply political by nature, and some things were best left unknown to a person at his level of the playing field. Some knowledge could do more harm than good, especially if it was a fact that someone powerful didn't want known.
Like if they used their office to meet a call girl...
On the other hand, knowledge was power, even if someone didn't want you to have it. Actually, those were the cases in which it especially qualified as power. Bradley considered that fact also, and wondered what he was thinking.
