I start backing up even though she could close the distance between us in an instant. The sound she made reminds me that she’s not human. Not animal maybe, but something alien. She’s furious. The spell is supposed to rapidly create resistance, and heat the air around an attacking vampire. Being that they unaccountably hate fire, it seemed like a smart spell at the time. Now, I’m not so sure. As she passes the edge of the desk, Rui snatches something up – oh, a pencil - and starts turning it over in one hand. Her eyes glitter at me, as she stalks my way, and I back up some more. Her lips are parted but her teeth meet in a predatory look that could possibly be considered a smile. Is she enjoying this?! Well if it’s shaken her at all, she’s masking it well. Had it been a slightly different spell, Rui would be ash. And yet, if she threw the pencil, or a chair, or heck anything, she could kill me. The spell wasn’t for inanimate objects travelling at ridiculous speeds and she’s probably figured that out. She’s willing to test the theory at any rate. Or see what else I might have guarding me. That was my only spell though. I have offensive spells I could try on her, but I’d never get my athame out in time.

He waits for me to speak without further acknowledgement and the longer I take to formulate my thoughts into words, the more evidently he seethes. What is he so angry with me for? What could I have done to him? I take a step toward him and he puts another table between us in a speed blurred gesture, and stands with his hands palm up under the edge, as if to flip it on its side between us should I come any closer. “I want to eat you, Meagan, and not in a good way. And it will never be enough; don’t ya get it? I don’t know you, I suppose I could like you, I’m even grateful for what you’ve done for them, but I can taste you from here."
