And so, we have come to know the face of cancer. It has taken the lives of our loved ones and has left us feeling sad, angry, fearful, and lonely. It has been called the “dreaded disease.” But today, I challenge you to look at cancer with new eyes. To see it as a teacher, as something from which we can learn.

This book is dedicated to all my cancer patients whom I’ve massaged over the past seventeen years. I have had the privilege to have comforted, loved, soothed, and listened to each one of them as most have entered their end stage of life. It is during this time that many have learned much from their illness. Their lessons while dying are here for us: to learn how to live our lives.

These are true stories. I have been beside each person and I feel this urgency to represent their “voice” and their stories. I feel them calling me to do this: to represent them. And so let us begin this journey together.
