In the past Nigeria was known as the giant of Africa because of the country’s great potential in natural and human resources. But the discovery of oil in 1956 and the subsequent boom in the early 1970’s has turned out to be more of a curse than a blessing to the people of Nigeria.
Another one of Nigeria’s problems is the social situation and it left me wondering why the British colonial government would bring the different protectorates together in 1914 without any concern for their social and cultural backgrounds especially between the north and south. This lack of concern had played a major role in causing unnecessary confusion and dissension between the two regions.
After witnessing Nigeria’s problems for more than fourteen years, it left me with a strong urge to write about their situation in a constructive way. My journey touched on various levels of the Nigerian society and I would like to share these experiences with you in IT’S TIME NIGERIA.
