Los revisionistas parten de negar la premisa básica de nuestra época: que las fuerzas productivas han dejado de crecer.
Marx dice que un régimen social debe desaparecer, cuando las fuerzas de producción (la técnica, el poder del hombre sobre la naturaleza) no pueden ya desenvolverse en los límites de ese régimen. Cuando estas condiciones están presentes, se dan las premisas básicas para cambiar el viejo orden social por uno nuevo.
Para el marxismo revolucionario, en nuestra época, estas condiciones históricas se dan a partir de 1914, cuando el capitalismo entra en su época de decadencia, abriéndose la época imperialista.
Las distintas corrientes oportunistas que usurpan el nombre del trotskismo revisan la premisa de que las fuerzas productivas están en decadencia. Los revisionistas de todo pelaje que niegan así el carácter de la época imperialista rechazan que las condiciones objetivas para la revolución proletaria estén maduras, justificación en la que basan su abandonó a la lucha por la revolución socialista como tarea inmediata de la clase obrera mundial contra la barbarie capitalista. Como plantea el Programa de Transición, las condiciones para la revolución están más que maduras bajo la fase imperialista del capitalismo, y por lo tanto, que “la crisis histórica de la humanidad se reduce a la crisis de su dirección revolucionaria”. Premisa que han desechado aquellas corrientes que han renegado del marxismo revolucionario.

The revisionists start by denying the basic premise of our time: the productive forces have stopped growing.
Marx says that a social regime must disappear when the forces of production (technology, man's power over nature) can no longer function within the limits of that regime. When these conditions are present, the basic premises are given to change the old social order to a new one.
For revolutionary Marxism, in our time, these historical conditions occurred since 1914, when capitalism enters in its epoch of decadence, opening the imperialist epoch.
Different opportunist currents that usurp the name of Trotskyism review the premise that the productive forces are in decline. Remaining revisionists who deny the character of the imperialist epoch reject that the objective conditions for the proletarian revolution are ripe;they use suchstatement to justify their abandonment to the struggle for socialist revolution as the immediate task of the world working class against Capitalist barbarism. As the Transitional Program raises the conditions for revolution are more than ripe under the imperialist phase of capitalism, and therefore that "the historical crisis of humanity is reduced to the crisis of its revolutionary leadership." Premise that those currents that have renegade revolutionary Marxismhave rejected.
