April, 1972, Glace Bay, NS
The morning after a brutal fist fight with her sister, Diane Timmons' car is found submerged in water at the base of a cliff. Diane's body is not in the car. An extensive search finds no trace of Diane and uncovers not a shred of physical evidence that she has even been harmed. Meanwhile, local gossip mongers, aware of Diane's well-known reputation for exploitation and manipulation are convinced that she has been murdered. With the police investigation bouncing from one dead end to another, the community is quickly flooded with gossip and accusations. With each new rumour more preposterous than the previous one, various members of Diane's family, her employer, and a promimant local politician are each in turn implicated in her disappearance.
