Let My Songs Be... is a collection of the songs of music maestro, Padma Bhushan Dr. Bhupen Hazarika translated from Assamese and Hindi into English poetry. The collection comprises of 41 select songs of Dr. Hazarika, which have been popular since decades and have been sung in many languages besides Assamese. Creative writing has been the author’s best companion when in solitude since a very young age. Innumerable poems, a couple of short stories and a fiction, these she had carefully shut in her closet all these years, without a thought of putting them into the public domain, except a few of her poems in a couple of magazines. Then, getting into PhD in English Literature added a new edge to her writings. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s demise had a profound effect upon her. He departed by giving her an adage. Being a singer herself (though not professional), she could feel the soul of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s songs. Her creativity turned some of the most celebrated songs of the bard into English poetry, which has finally come into the form of this book due to the encouragement of her well-wishers.
