This story shows life as Toby sees himself and his family, the adventures he encounters and the fun he has with his new friends.
He is a friendly, loving dog and soon begins to think he's human too. His new family are grandparents that live alone since the children are grown and have families of their own.
Mr. & Mrs. King both love him very much, but of the two, Mr. King is his favorite. He goes everywhere possible with him; riding on the golf cart, tractor and lawnmower, to the store, fishing, working in the shop, or just rocking with him on the porch. Mr. King always carries dog snacks for him in his shirt pocket, and he has learned to stick his nose in and get one. When asked if he's spoiled, he rolls over as if to say, "Yes, I am!"
His favorite thing in the world are Mrs. King most delicious chocolate chip cookies. He always seems to know when a batch is being made and inside he comes, because he will get a little dough before and one after they're done.
The story begins when he's adopted at six weeks old and ends when a year old.
