“The Wind In the Willows” is undoubtedly a very popular book. Actually, it is two separate books put into one. On one hand there are the chapters which describe the adventures of Toad and on the other hand there are those chapters which explore human emotions such as fear, nostalgia, awe, wanderlust.

Elders often find “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” the most interesting of the chapters in the book. They often read this chapter to the young children.

The Edwardian age was definitely a decade of social discontent and growing international tension. The British Empire had begun to crumble, but at the same time, children’s literature flourished during that decade.
